Welcome to my Homeschool Basics Series! Today I am going to go through the 3 simple steps you need to start your homeschooling journey.

STEP 1: YOU NEED TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE HOMESCHOOL LAWS IN YOUR STATE. This is because regulations vary significantly state by state. You also want to ensure that you are 100% in compliance at all times. Some states require you to submit curriculums. Other states require you to take state tests, and yet others require you to do reporting on a regular basis. To make it easier, just Google the name of your state and the letters H S L D A. It will take you to the website that will break it down for you.

STEP 2: YOU NEED TO FIND YOUR PEOPLE. If you can not find a person in your community, a virtual one will suffice. You are going to have so many questions in the early days and you need people that you can bounce those questions off of. You will also need help to find local resources that are available to you or online. You can also use them to get valuable feedback about what worked and what has not worked from other people. There is a teaching I always held high which is: Who is wise the one who learns from everyone. So do just that and it will save you a lot of grief.

STEP 3: YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW YOUR CHILD LEARNS AND WHAT YOU NEED TO TEACH. Your child might have a unique learning profile. For example, you need to piece together different curriculums to meet your child's needs. So thats why the first step is the most important.

The second step is important as well because maybe you have experience teaching, and you lack the confidence to do it yourself. In which case you will probably want an open and go curriculum or something that has lots of support.

There is so much more we can get into in terms of mindset, and specific how-tos, but these three steps will help you get started.
